English 1 & 2
Students will be studying and working on how to correctly write a complete sentence. They will be learning that each word in a sentence has a specific job, and that the job is important to make sentences interesting to the reader. Students will be given a daily journal with a teacher given topic. The journals will be graded on the basis of complete sentences as well as following the topic. A weekly grade will be given as a writing grade. The students will also be given weekly Spelling Lessons. Teh words and a lesson will be done in class on Tuesday, and a weekly test will be given on Thursday. The students will write their own study cards and have them to study before the test. All words will be called out by the teacher, and the student will write them. All missed words on the test will be written 5 times each.
English 3 & 4 & Reading
Students will be reading condensed versions of some Classic Novels. These novels have been prepared with vocabulary and comprehension worksheets to better understand the novel. The hope is that the students will enjoy the condensed version enough to maybe want to check out the novel and read the entire story. We have started the year with Swiss Family Robinson, will then read White Fang, and also The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Little Women. The students will also be writing daily journals with teacher given topics. These journal writings will be graded on sentence structure. The journals will be graded each Friday with one grade given as a writing lesson. The students will also have Spelling lessons. The words and lesson will be given on Tuesday with a weekly Spelling test given on Thursday.
World Geography
Students will be studying map skills, and will work on individual worksheets about each of the 50 states. When the student has completed 10 states, a comprehensive test will be given about the 10 states. The student will be allowed to use state information pages to answer the questions on the test. We will also study the continents, oceans, and some of the others parts of geography.
U.S. History
Students will be working on the History of the United States, from the Pre-Columbus time to the history of today. Students will be doing activities that include vocabulary, comprehension, some map skills, and graphing. We will also do some activites that will include art work in the time era being studied.
Science & Biology
Students will work in books that will cover the aspects of Science needed in their 9th and 10 grade levels. The students will do activities in each chapter, as well as vocabulary, comprehension, graphing, and activities to better understand the topic being covered in the chapters. Open-book test will be given at the end of each chapter.
