My name is Christy Chester. I am currently teaching special education in the elementary school. Intermediate grades are my favorite grade levels to teach. I teach fourth and fifth grade students. I have been an educator for twenty-six years. All of my experience has been in special education. I have worked as a teacher and as an educational diagnostician. I became interested in special education when I was in college. Working with these students can be very challenging, but it is also very rewarding. I plan to stay in the field of special education until I decide to retire.
Most of the students in my class are diagnosed with some type of learning disability. Although most of my students require quite a bit of individualized help, I try to challenge them to work independently when possible. I like to teach new concepts in a way that my students can relate to their experiential backgrounds. I think that the more the students can relate to something, the more likely they are to remember it.
