My name is Ruby Schuman.I am a career teacher presently working with gifted students. Together with Susan Stepp, I share a part time position in the Comanche Elementaryand G/T program. More specifically, we have a pull out program, whereby the upper elementary students (grades 3,4,5) attend our classes one day per week. Lower Elementary(grades 1 and 2)gifted students are pulled out of the regular classroom for 1/2 day. Mrs. Stepp works directly with grades 3 and 5 and I am responsible for grades 1,2 and 4.

We write and plan the curriculum,which covers the four core areas and our goal is to meet the needs of gifted students through creativity,problem solving and creative and critical thinking. In addition,the curriculum provides opportunities for students to be involved in the development
of advanced level products.

Beginning in October,2003,we will again be a participant in a pilot program sponsored by the Texas Education Agency and Region XIII in an assessment system and statewide standards program for 4th grade G/T. Teacher training will be held sometime in October. Work on the project will begin soon after that.

We also publish a monthly newspaper and have created our own
